This year, I have thrown myself feet first into teaching Comprehensible Input completely un-targeted. It was a huge leap of faith for me, but after several weeks I realized that it was actually more comfortable for me than the traditional "targeted" ways I had been used to teaching. The biggest change has been in my planning and preparation. I plan 10% as much as I used to, and my lessons are even more engaging than they used to be. Come join us in Oregon a little early! Join me in my pre-conference workshop and learn the different ways I have developed teaching with non-targeted CI. Learn how to be a pretzel and adapt to the wants, needs, and curiosities of all of your different student populations! I promise you will be entertained (that is a guarantee!) and you will walk away with countless ideas of how to implement AWESOME, un-targeted, compelling, comprehensible input in your classroom! You will cut your planning time in half! At least! Come have fun with me! YAY!
This course includes 9 hours and 45 minutes of a two-day workshop recorded June 26th and 27th, 2017.
Annabelle Allen (aka La Maestra Loca) is a passionate Spanish teacher at St. Martin’s Episcopal School in New Orleans, Louisiana. She taught Spanish in the Lower School at St. Martin’s last year (2015-2016). This year she has been teaching in the Middle School where she has the opportunity to see each of her students every single day. She is passionate about Middle School, though she has taught at all levels. She taught for a year in China in 2014-15 and before that taught for 4 years in Denver, Colorado, where she learned and developed her “CI” techniques. She enjoys helping students of ALL ages ACQUIRE the Spanish language, rather than just learn it. Her goal for her students, children and adults is communication. She is considered an leader in her teaching methodology (Comprehensible Input) and mentors teachers throughout the nation in developing their skills in this style of language education. The summer of 2016 she traveled to Chattanooga, Tennessee for an International Language Conference (IFLT), where she was a learning lab teacher, modeling the methodology for teachers from all over the world. She traveled to Denver, Colorado in the summer of 2017 to repeat the experience. In June of 2017, she presented at the Cascadia CI Conference in Portland, OR, and in August traveled to Brattleboro, Vermont to present and teach Spanish to elementary students at the Express Fluency Teacher Training. In her free time Annabelle enjoys traveling the world and blogging about her travels. She also loves eating! Anything and everything, even duck tongue and sheep brain! Her favorite thing in the world is spending time with her family, and picnicking with her boyfriend Paul and bonus-daughter Isla Rose who just turned three and LOVES all things Unicorns, fairies, and mermaids, just like her “AtDat”.
